UN Joint Logistics Centres
A UN Joint Logistics Centre (UNJLC) is established in most large-scale emergencies. It is run by the world food programme (WFP), but reports to the UN humanitarian coordinator for the particular emergency. It aims to coordinate and optimise the logistics capabilities of humanitarian organisations. The UNJLC home page is www.unjlc.org.
A Logistician's Plea by AWN member John Rickard. Talks about how, in contrast to many years ago, aid, relief and development projects involve dozens of staff and expenditures of millions of dollars, "and the old ways no longer work." This article talks about the critical need to set priorities and to establish the necessary management, administrative and collaborative structures to plan and coordinate successfully.
