I support several community projects in the Waterloo district of Sierra Leone (financially and with equipment etc). I was asked if I could provide manual sewing machines and lots of wool and knitting needles to an adult skills class teaching the wives of amputees how to make a living for their families. I now have these items but the charity that was going to ship them over for me has let me down.

This may seem like a strange question, but does anyone have experience of setting up, or working for a volunteer bureau / centre in sub-saharan Africa?
I'm thinking of the type of bureau you get in the UK where organisations who need volunteers register their opportunities with you, and people looking to do voluntary work come to match up with a suitable placement.

I am hoping to relocate to the Freetown area of Sierra Leone for personal reasons but I'm not sure where to start in looking for employment. Ideally I'd like to work for an NGO or similar but would also consider working in the private sector. I can't seem to get very far on international job web searches and the few jobs I've seen advertised for UK NGOs working in SL are terribly specialised
