Twitter is a "microblogging" platform. Posts are text only, 140 characters maximum. Both individuals and organisations mostly use it to send short updates, too short to e.g. publish it on a blog. One of the "social media" features of Twitter is the ability to "follow" other Twitter users i.e. to "assemble" the posts from like-minded people onto your own 'Twitter' blog. That's Twitter in a nutshell. I would think in the aid world, Twitter might have a role. Think of security incident updates in an emergency operation. Or logistics capacity updates ("convoy leaving Goma for Rutshuru next Monday, 10 M3 volume still available")... P. Why use twitter?
What could AWN use twitter for?
A lot of people don't know what twitter (or other forms of micro-blogging) is -- would someone care to offer an explanation, rather than me? (even *I'm* sick of my posts to AWN).
